Schwanengesang
Da zuletzt gerade die Apologetische Centrale zitiert wurde, sei dieses Stichwort noch einmal aufgenommen. In ihrer Zeitschrift "Wort und Tat" (Heft 8/1933) findet sich auch ein Kommentar zum Bibelforscherverbot. Die Redaktion wählte als Überschrift die Vokabel: "Schwanengesang der Ernsten Bibelforscher". Nachstehend einiges von den Ausführungen in "Wort und Tat":
"Drei Tage, bevor die Verordnung des preußischen Ministers des Innern auf Grund des § 1 der Verordnung des Reichspräsidenten zum Schutze von Volk und Staat vom 28. Februar 1933 die Internationale Bibelforschervereinigung einschließlich ihrer sämtlichen Organisationen im Gebiet des Freistaates Preußen auflöste und verbot, hat die Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society, Magdeburg, noch eine 'Erklärung' an alle erreichbaren Stellen verschickt, die folgendes betonte:
'Dieser Kongress deutscher Männer und Frauen, friedliebender und ordnungsliebender Bürger aus allen Teilen des Landes, die alle miteinander ernsthaft an dem höchsten Wohl des deutschen Volkes mitarbeiten, hat sich heute, den 25. Juni 1933, offiziell in Berlin versammelt und erklärt freudig seine völlige Ergebenheit gegenüber Jehova Gott, dem Allmächtigen, und seinem Königreich unter Christus Jesus, dessen vergossenes Blut die Menschheit erkauft hat. … Wir berufen uns auf das Wort Gottes und möchten nach diesem Maßstabe beurteilt werden.'
Anscheinend sollte dieser 'Kongress' das bevorstehende Verbot der Sekte verhindern; dass geht besonders aus dem Abschnitt hervor, der sagt:
'Wir sind fälschlicherweise bei den Regierungsbehörden und bei dem deutschen Volk angeschuldigt worden.'
Fragt man aber, welche Argumente diese 'wahren Nachfolger Jesu Christi' als Entgegnung auf eine solche Anklage anführen, so muss man sich belehren lassen, dass die Worte Jesu (Markus 13, 9) auf die Sekte zutreffen, ja, dass es im Willen Jehovas liegt, dass seine 'treuen Zeugen in falschem Verdacht kommen und verfolgt werden, nämlich damit solche, die von einem falschen Geist beseelt sind, sich selbst als Feinde Gottes offenbaren und damit wider sich selbst Zeugnis ablegen.'
Es ist nicht recht ersichtlich, wie nach solcher Äußerung 'der Name Jehova Gottes in der Auffassung des Volkes erhöht und sein gütiger Ratschluss besser verstanden und unsere Stellung der Regierung gegenüber in rechter Weise dargelegt sein' soll, da ja die Situation des Jesuswortes gar nicht mit der der Sekte im Augenblick verglichen werden darf.
Der Anklage, dass die Sekte durch jüdisches Kapital unterstützt wird, begegnet man damit, dass man betont:
'Wir sind treue Nachfolger Jesu Christi und glauben an ihn als dem Heiland der Welt.'
Auf den Vorwurf, dass die Bücher und Schriften der Sekte die öffentliche Ordnung und Sicherheit des Staates gefährden, wird in der 'Erklärung' darauf hingewiesen, 'dass unsere Bücher und Schriften von den Führern nicht sorgfältig geprüft und daher auch nicht richtig verstanden worden sind.'
Die Sprache soll dem 'offenen und direkten amerikanischen Stil' entsprechen, damit zugleich aber auch 'genau der Redeweise der Bibel.'
Die staatliche Begründung für das Verbot nennt 'eine unverkennbare Hetze gegen die christliche Kirche und den Staat', ferner biete die Vereinigung auch die Möglichkeit, 'auf freiem politischem Gebiete eine Auffangorganisation für die verschiedensten staatsfeindlichen Elemente' entstehen zu lassen.
Diese Vorwürfe dürften dadurch kaum entkräftigt werden, dass die 'Erklärung' betont, 'dass Bestreben unserer Organisation ist ausschließlich darauf beschränkt, für den Namen und das Wort Jehova Gottes Zeugnis abzulegen. Es wäre daher von uns ganz inkonsequent, wenn wir versuchen wollten, irgendwelchen Einfluss auf die Regierungen dieser Welt auszuüben oder irgendetwas zu tun, was die öffentliche Ruhe und Sicherheit des Landes gefährden würde.'
Trotz all dieser treuherzigen Versicherungen ist das Verbot vom Staat ausgesprochen worden, und er muss den Vorwurf ertragen können, dass er damit wissentlich 'das fortschrittliche Zeugniswerk für den Namen Jehovas und seines Königreiches' bekämpfen will.
Die Sekte selbst aber sieht mit rechter Unverfrorenheit auf das Wort in Apostelgeschichte zurück, wonach das Werk, wenn es nur Menschenwerk wäre, untergehen müsste, als Gottes Wort aber ewigen Bestandes sicher sein dürfte.
Die kleinen Proben beleuchten am besten, wie es um dieses Werk bestellt ist, und es wird keine Stimme des Bedauerns laut werden, dass es der Sekte unmöglich gemacht ist, die Gemeinden noch länger zu verwirren."
Swan song
Since the Apologetic Central was just
cited, let’s take up this catch word again. In their magazine „Wort und
Tat“ (Word and Deed) (issue 8/1933) on can also find a comment on [the issue of] the
ban of the Bibelforscher (Bible Researchers). The editors chose the words „Swan song
of the Serious Bible Researchers“ for headline.
Subsequently [one can find] some of the statements [written down] in
„Wort und Tat“:
„Thee days before the order of the Prussian Minister of the Interior, based upon § 1
of the order of the Reich’s President for the protection of the People and the State
from February 28 th, 1933,
dissolved and banned the International Bible Researcher’s Association including all
of its organisations on the territory of the Freistaat (Free State) of Prussia
the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society, Magdeburg,
sped up to send to all agencies at reach a ‘declaration’ that emphasised the
following:
„Today, on June 25th 1933, this congress of German men and women, citizens from all
regions of the country who love peace and order and altogether sincerely do their part of
the work for the highest well-being of the German people
assembled officially in Berlin and with great joy declares its total submission to Jehovah
God the Almighty and to his kingdom under Christ Jesus whose shed blood bought mankind
free ...
We appeal to the word of God and would like to be judged by this measure.“
It seems that this „congress“ was supposed to prevent the forthcoming ban of the
cult, his becomes especially clear in the paragraph which says:
„We have been falsely accused at government authorities and at the German
people.“
However, if one asks which statements these ‘true followers of Jesus Christ’
give in order to respond to such an accusation,
one is obligated to be instructed that the words of Jesus (Marcus 13, 9) apply to the
cult, yes, that it is within Jehovah’s will that ‘his faithful witnesses are
subjected to false suspicion [or: false accusation]
and are persecuted, for those filled with a false spirit Reveal themselves as enemies of
God and hereby testify against themselves.“
It is everything but evident how according to such as statement ‘the name of Jehovah
God shall be glorified in the public opinion
and his merciful decision shall be comprehended more well and our position towards the
government shall be explained in a correct [decent?] manner’ since the circumstances
of Jesus’ word must not be compared to the cult at the moment.
They reply to the accusation of the sect being supported by Jewish capital by emphasising:
‘We are faithful followers of Jesus Christ and believe in him as the Messiah of the
world.
[As a response] to the accusation that the books and pamphlets of the cult endanger public
order and state security it is stated in
the ‘declaration’ „that our books and pamphlets Have not been examined
carefully by the leaders and therefore have not been understood correctly.“
The language is said to correspond to the ‘open and direct American style’ but
also ‘precisely to the style of the Bible’ at the same time.
The state’s justification for the ban mentions unmistakable agitation against the
Christian church, furthermore the association offers also a possibility favourable to the
creation of a reception organisation for various state-hostile subjects on a free
political area.
These accusations are not likely to be invalidated by emphasising in the
‘declaration’ „that the endeavour of our organisation is exclusively
limited to testify for the Name and the word of Jehovah God. Therefore it would be
absolutely inconsequent from our side, if we tried to exercise any kind of influence on
the government of this world or to do anything That could disturb the peace or endanger
the state security.“
Despite all these guileless affirmations the ban has been declared by the State and
[therefore] it must be strong enough to withstand the reproach that by acting like this it
intentionally wants to combat the „progressive work of witnessing for the name of
Jehovah and of his kingdom.
However, the cult itself looks back quite impertinently at the Word in the Acts of the
Apostles, according to which the work, if it was human work only, would be doomed to
perish, but, being the word of God could be sure of eternal continuance.
These little examples enlighten as their best what is the fate of this work, and no voice
of regret will be raised at the fact of the cult being hindered of confusing communities
